SafeTGA: A Big Win

A big win for bike lanes on Tower Grove Avenue!

Earlier this week residents of the Shaw neighborhood voted overwhelmingly to support buffered bike lanes on Tower Grove Avenue before Kingshighway closes. Alderman Conway then pledged to support the neighborhood’s position – his statement is below.

Weather permitting, buffered bike lanes will be installed on Tower Grove Avenue within two weeks. We’ll keep you updated as that happens.

Re: Permanent Buffered Bike Lanes on Tower Grove Ave

I have spoken to Mayor Slay’s office and at my request, the City will be expediting the striping of Tower Grove Ave to provide for permanent buffered bike lanes between Shaw and Magnolia.

This is supported by both adjacent Neighborhoods and is consistent with our policies to make our streets safer for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists. The new striping should occur within the next two weeks.

This quick time frame will allow this to be completed before the Kingshighway Bridge is closed and is only subject to weather conditions.  Also, if there are any tweaks necessary they can be implemented before the closing of Kingshighway.

We are asking both the Bicyclists and Motorists to educate yourselves on the road markings.  This should ease congestion and tension.  Mayor Slay’s office has been very instrumental in facilitating this discussion and implementation.

Sincerely,

Alderman Stephen J. Conway
